I wanna Barbie computer!

Check out this video I made at the National Business Aviation Association's convention in Atlanta. The crazy female robots at the end are worth the one minute of your time. Click here.

Here's a photo of me while I was working on the video. To the right is Izzy who is worked alongside me on her pink Barbie computer.

Cute kids and cats

I've spent the past few days reconnecting with old friends Shay and Mary (who still look fabulous) and future Scruffins readers (their children). They both have really cute cats and even cuter kids.

Stay tuned. I plan to post some footage from our karaoke extravaganza in the near future. You won't want to miss out.

Yeah, baby, yeah!

I ran into this crazy cat this morning on the escalator. He was groovy, baby.

She looks great!

Team Scruffins recently checked in with our friend Mary in Hotlanta. She looks fabulous and she won't deny it.

Oconee Acoustic Jam Session

The first Scruffins Multimedia retreat was a complete success! In addition to soaking in the sun (and the hops), we also recorded a few CRG originals by the bonfire. One is "Loraine's Song" and it was inspired by our hostess with the mostess.

The other is an abreviated version of a CRG classic called "Someday."

A Scruffins Retreat

The Scruffins Multimedia staff is currently on its first retreat. We're lakeside in Georgia contemplating our past successes and future endeavors, while reconnecting with our love of frosty beverages.

You'll see more in the near future, including the bonfire acoustic sessions and our water-skiing adventures. We'll also be checking in with a few of our Georgia readers over the next few days.

Do other cats do this?

It's nearly impossible for me to read anything without my cat, Blixie, plopping her furry body on top of the passage I'm perusing.

Is she the only one or do other kitties have that special feline gift?

Thanks, Brent

We finally got a New Mexican meal last night at Sandiago's Mexican Grill and it was muey bueno. We ate after we rode on the Sandia Peak Tramway - the world's longest aerial tramway.

I was doing fine dealing with the fact that we were nearly 11,000 feet above the ground until our friendly Tramway driver, Brent, told us about the time his car was struck by lightning and they dangled on the line for thirty minutes. Yikes!

Mmm...margaritas

Here are a few pics from our visit to Old Town in Albuquerque last night. I wish that I could tell you we had a fabulous dinner of innovative New Mexican cuisine, but sadly I can not. What we consumed was good grub, though. We had margaritas (just one each) and then gorged on the chips/salsa/guacamole, followed by sopapillas. We had no room in our bellies for a real dinner after that feast.

Not one of those airport bathrooms

I'm in Albuquerque for a couple of days on an assignment. I visited the women's bathroom at the airport and a funny thing happened in the stall next to me. I shot some video, just in case I needed it to protect my innocence. See for yourself.

Digital Diary

To all you bloggers, the pre-dawn team at Scruffins Multimedia lab (well, me) has found a way to create a digital file of your postings. Blogger doesn't do it but another Web site will and it's really easy. Just go here and enter the URL of your site. A lovely PDF will magically appear on your desktop moments later.

There's one caveat. It will only create a PDF of what's currently on your page and not older posts. Here's one way around it. Go into your Blogger preferences and tell it to show as many postings as you have at once and then go to that site to create the PDF. You can change the preferences back later.

To quote Ma Green, the fine folks at Scruffins Multimedia are "useful as well as ornamental." Thanks, Ma.

Going To Wichita

Carter played with Joe's band last weekend at Oeno. During the band's break, Carter played with me (he doesn't need to rest). My friend Shay pointed out something that I hadn't realized before, which is that our duo is similar to The White Stripes. However, we did not intentionally dress in their signature colors that night, it just happened.

I've uploaded a few Fly By Night tunes I recorded that evening for your listening pleasure.

Poop Ball

Many of you probably already saw this on Denise's blog, but it's worth seeing again. There's something that's pretty freakin' funny about a 2-year-old saying "poop ball" over and over.

State Fair Symphony

I just finished a video I'm calling "State Fair Symphony." It's a collection of audio and images from the fair that I put to rhythm with some help from CRG. My mad percussion skills are coming in handy. Check it out here.

Fair photos

Went to the fair today and here's some of what I saw.

Really ripe tomatoes.

Beautiful wooden roses.

Corny artwork.

Scary signs.

An Eagle reader enjoying the paper. Where do I get one of those chairs? Sadly, she wouldn't give me her name - it's the carny creed.

One month from today

My friend Robin Macy is playing a show at Botanica on October 11 and you better get your tickets soon. She played there two years ago and it sold out. I had to do A LOT of begging to get a cool spot on the grassy knoll. Tickets are $12 and you can call Botanica at 316-264-0448.

Robin is going to play music from "Songs From the Garden," the cd she is recording with Scruffins Multimedia co-founder Carter Green at Greenjeans Studios. I've sat in on a few recording sessions and for a Bluegrass/folk musician, she totally rocks!

Biker Chick

Team Scruffins put together a slideshow for our friend Amy who is raising funds for Team In Training while training for a 109-mile bike ride in Arizona. I shot a few photos of her in action and Carter recorded a folksy fingerstyle acoustic guitar piece in my kitchen.

Powwows

I've shot plenty of powwows in my day and I can always count on these two things happening: it will start late (even the people who run it joke about what they call "Indian time") and I'll hear the drumming in my head long after the powwow is over. The ancient music is mysterious and powerful.

I put together a slideshow using sound and photos I took at a powwow yesterday. Check it out here but don't blame me if you start chanting and banging on things loudly. It's contagious.

Jeepers Creepers

Don't you just hate listening to muzak when you're put on-hold? So do we and that's why we recently created an upbeat song for my friend Annie's optometry business. Carter and I perform vocals and he plays a gazillion more instruments on the recording.

Nice rack

The Kansas State Fair begins today I'm sharing one of my favorite fair photos in celebration of the big event. I shot it last year and I do believe that's educational and entertaining.

I'll take mine without cheese, please.

I spotted this last week at the Anchor. It's one way of getting rid of childhood obesity.

Kitchen Pics

I spent yesterday afternoon shooting a ton of food prepared by Senor Jose Stumpe. In between casseroles, baked fish and fried chicken, I also shot some fun details in Carrie and Joe's cocina. I love the magnetic mittens. (Carrie, the kitchen was immaculate. You have absolutely nothing to worry about.)

Click on the pics to enlarge them.

Smokin' Tracks

My friend Kentucky White recently uploaded the video of the very first project created by Team Scruffins. We made a song for Robin to thank her for introducing us to each other. She thought we'd make a good couple because of our similar energy. She was right.

The song is a parody of Roger Miller's "King of Kansas City" and our version is titled "The Baroness of Belle Plaine." I play the drums and perform lead vocals. Carter plays everything else. Here's the song and BONUS behind-the-scenes video.
The Making of The Baroness of Belle Plaine

My job doesn't suck.

Taye Diggs, the actor/dancer who is probably best known for his role in "How Stella Got Her Groove Back" was in town yesterday. He and his childhood friend have a dance company and they are working with Wichita State University students on a collaborative project.

I took one for the team and volunteered to work early and shoot the video (an entirely altruistic action, of course). Taye was great. He was extremely kind and he didn't seem to mind me being there with my camera, which is always a plus.

Click here to see the video on Kansas.com.

Ghost of Wranglers Past

I took this photo (actually, it's a combination of several photos) last week during Ted Woodward's birthday party at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium. I used a program that came with my Canon Elph called Stitch. It combines a series of photographs into one panoramic picture.

Ted (or Teddy Bear, as Bonnie likes to call him) is on the far left. Teddy Bear's dad, Pat, is pictured twice. Or maybe one of the Pats is actually the Ghost of Wranglers Past who is perturbed about the team's move to Arkansas. Hmm...

This is a test

Home is where you hang your SpongeBob SquarePants pinata.

I went to a rockin' birthday party today to celebrate lil' CRG's fifth birthday. He told his dad he wanted a SpongeBob SquarePants pinata and daddy did not disappoint. A river of candy flowed from SpongeBob's square pants.

I let the birthday boy take some pictures of his dad and grandma and I think he did a darn good job. I held the camera around his neck (it probably weighs as much as he does), then he composed the shot and fired away. I love the expressiveness of his subjects. Maybe he'll ask for a camera on his sixth birthday.

The house that Jay built.

Check out this audio slideshow I created for the Eagle's Web site, Kansas.com. Denise helped me gather the audio. The background kitchen noises she recorded are, well, genius. We also bought lunch that day and our food is pictured in the slideshow. The first person to correctly identify our meal will win a valuable prize.

I'm not really perfect. It's a comedy.

Welcome. I think this blog will be a great place to post some fun things that I've been working on lately. Here's a film that Carter and I made. It's a parody of a British film we love.
